The naming of W.F.'s oldest sister, Antonia, is a minor mystery because it
does not follow the naming traditions. Antonia is not a common Dutch name
and could signify a family relationship with someone yet unknown. There are
a few distant relations named Anna, Anton, and Anthonie, yet none appear a
likely reason for the prominent choice of Antonia for the oldest daughter.
However, Fredrika Vink may have had a brother named Anthonie. This
question will likely remain unresolved until additional Vink birth records can
                  be located.

W.F.'s second sister was named after his father's mother, Lammerdina. His
third sister Frederika carries his mother's name.

No known children were named Teuntje or Teunis after their maternal
grandmother Teuntje Meeder. This is mildly surprising since the Poots
generally followed the naming conventions. Teuntje is the feminine of
Teunis, and this raised the research idea that Teunis was the name of her
father or grandfather. This was confirmed by the discovery that Teuntje
Meeder's maternal grandfather was named T(h)eunis Boekholt.

Poot is not a common name in the Netherlands. A comprehensive study of
family names has been published as "Nederlands Repertorium van
Familienamen". It is based upon analysis of the 1947 census of the 9.5
million inhabitants of the Netherlands. It shows a total of 1,960 Poots living
at that time. Of these, 1,462 (75%) lived in Zuid-Holland. Only 13 Poots lived
in the Overijssel province and none in Friesland.

When researching historical birth and death records for J.W. Poot's time in
Friesland, the only Poots born there were the children of Jan Willem and
Fredrika Poot. This step of the research proved to be easy. It was already
known through family lore that Jan Willem Poot was born in Deventer.
Confirming this was difficult. Unfortunately, only limited information from
Deventer's vital records are available via the internet. As a result, the birth
records for JW Poot and most of his siblings have not yet been located.
However, there are marriage records from other localities that confirm JW
Poot and his brothers and sister were all born in Deventer.

Historical records show that most Poots have lived in the area surrounding
Delft and Rotterdam for centuries. Nearly all of the places they lived are
located in the center of the province of Zuid-Holland (South Holland) in an
area smaller than the city of Los Angeles. This area is sometimes called
Delfland, but it could be nicknamed Pootland, since most Poots have
remained in this area for hundreds of years. The approximate boundaries of
this area are marked by Delft in the northwest, Zoetermeer in the north,
Gouda in the northeast, Vlaardingen in the southwest, and Rotterdam in the
southeast. Other "Poot" towns within this area include De Lier, Kethel,
Overschie, Pijnacker, Schipluiden, Spaaland, and Zegwaart. These locations
are only a few miles apart, and it is no surprise that the birth and baptism for
